Use the wall, not the paint swatch
Measure the open wall area around the art, not the entire wall. Above a sofa or console, a work or grouping often feels settled when it occupies roughly two-thirds of the furniture width.
Exact color matching can make art disappear into a scheme. A related temperature, repeated accent, or deliberate contrast usually creates a stronger room.
Consider where the room is entered
Stand at the doorway and at the seat used most often. Large graphic work can organize a distant view, while quiet surface and detail reward a place where viewers naturally come closer.
If the room changes dramatically from day to evening, review images in both bright and low light. Reflective glazing, metallic surfaces, and deep dark paintings respond differently across the day.
