Start with the work, then verify the record
The first decision is visual: does the work continue to hold your attention after several visits? Once it does, move to the record. Confirm the artist, year, medium, dimensions, edition status, signature, condition, and whether a certificate is included.
Good listings separate facts from atmosphere. A poetic description may deepen the experience, but it should not replace measurements, materials, shipping information, or clear images of the full object.
Resolve practical questions before checkout
Measure the intended wall or surface, including furniture, switches, and sight lines. For framed work, use the outside frame size. For sculpture, confirm weight, stability, and whether a base or mounting hardware is included.
Ask who packs the work, how it is insured in transit, when tracking is provided, and what happens if damage is discovered. A serious gallery answers these questions plainly and keeps the artist involved where their knowledge matters.
