Aroha Te Rangi

Wellington, New Zealand

Pressure turns a drawing into an event.

Biography

Aroha Te Rangi creates layered monotypes shaped by wind, coastal plants, and the physical pressure of the printing process. Her imagery stays abstract and grounded in close observation.

Artist statement

I think of the press as weather. It transfers, compresses, blurs, and leaves some things untouched.

In the studio

Te Rangi inks plant fibers, cut stencils, and textured plates, then combines several impressions on one sheet. No two prints share the same registration. Dichroic glass and light panels give her pressure-based compositions a spatial, changing register.
