Biography
Becca Lang is an emerging photographer whose first bodies of work grew from empty civic interiors and the temporary paper signs removed from them. She combines cool architectural images with hand-cut paper in compact, sharply edited collages.
Artist statement
Lang looks for places designed to direct bodies, then photographs them without occupants. Cutting the print lets her interrupt that authority and build a different route through the image.
In the studio
Lang photographs at quiet hours with a small digital camera, makes matte pigment prints, and cuts them with simple knives and templates. Graphite and vellum enter late, usually to soften one overly certain edge.
