Sofía Araya
Valparaíso, Chile
“Directions become interesting when the destination disappears.”
Biography
Sofía Araya combines coastal photographs with hand-built digital layers that resemble cut paper, weather charts, and fragments of signage. Her images are playful without losing their formal rigor.
Artist statement
I collect visual systems that are meant to guide us, then let weather and color make them unreliable.
In the studio
Araya photographs harbors and hillside streets, scans painted paper, and composes the elements digitally. Editions are small and each print includes a signed studio record. Suspended installations extend her digital layers into translucent forms that change as viewers move.
