Biography
Camila Ortega photographs architectural fragments and recombines them into physical collages. Rather than present recognizable landmarks, she isolates arches, stairs, painted shadow, and worn stone until place becomes a flexible construction.
Artist statement
Ortega uses cutting to separate architecture from its assigned function. A stair can become a dark interval, an arch a color boundary, and a wall a field of remembered light.
In the studio
Ortega makes her own pigment prints, trims them by hand, and builds arrangements directly on a tall studio wall. Final works combine adhered photographs, cotton paper, and quiet graphite lines.
