Anaïs Laurent
Marseille, France
“Contrast is a way of editing without removing anything.”
Biography
Anaïs Laurent photographs the Mediterranean city through glare, reflection, and deep architectural shadow. Her monochrome images avoid nostalgia in favor of direct, present-tense observation.
Artist statement
The brightest places produce the hardest shadows. I work in that tension, where detail appears and disappears with a few steps.
In the studio
Laurent walks with one camera and a fixed lens, returning to the same blocks across seasons. Prints are developed for dense blacks and a lightly warm paper tone. Folded wall installations translate hard Mediterranean light into repeating planes and shadows.
