Biography
Arturo Saldívar trained in architectural metalwork and spent years fabricating projects for other artists before developing his own sculptural vocabulary. Broad steel arcs meet narrow uprights in forms that balance force with open air.
Artist statement
Saldívar makes curvature carry structural pressure. His blue-black surfaces absorb light, while cut edges and negative spaces keep a large object from becoming visually closed.
In the studio
Saldívar bends plate in incremental passes, fits each intersection by hand, and keeps welds clean but legible. Patinas are built through heat and chemical washes, then sealed to preserve tonal variation.
