Eleni Vassos

Thessaloniki, Greece

A horizon is an agreement that the weather can cancel.

Biography

Eleni Vassos paints shorelines as places of negotiation between built history and moving water. Her landscapes are assembled from walks, quick color notes, and memory rather than direct transcription.

Artist statement

The coast is never still enough to become scenery. I paint its revisions: light, erosion, salt, and the structures we leave at the edge.

In the studio

Vassos uses oil on linen with pumice grounds that catch dry brushwork. She often completes several small panels before beginning a larger composition. Monotype provides a faster record of coastal color than her slower linen surfaces.
