Photography

Jean-Paul Leduc

Montreal, Quebec, Canada

The street is never empty; it is full of what just left.

Biography

Jean-Paul Leduc has photographed Montreal's industrial edges since the early 1990s. His small editions favor quiet hours, wet pavement, and facades emptied of event, allowing grain and tonal architecture to carry the image.

Artist statement

Leduc photographs places after their immediate purpose has receded. The absence of people makes wear, weather, and the social memory of a building newly visible.

In the studio

Leduc works with black-and-white film, develops negatives by hand, and prints on fiber-based baryta paper. Each edition is toned and spotted individually, with no attempt to remove the atmosphere of grain.
