Linh Đào
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
“Recognition begins where explanation stops.”
Biography
Linh Đào paints intimate portraits of invented sitters whose expressions hover between composure and disclosure. Her backgrounds often contain fragments of patterned tile and tropical shadow.
Artist statement
A portrait can be specific without becoming biography. I want each face to feel known and still retain the right to privacy.
In the studio
Đào works in thin oil and egg tempera on prepared wood. She builds skin tones through small translucent passages and lets the surrounding field remain comparatively direct. A small digital series replaces the sitter with networks of marks that still suggest presence.
