Lucía Serrano

Barcelona, Spain

The back of a building is often its most honest portrait.

Biography

Lucía Serrano paints the overlooked intervals of urban life: loading bays, stairwells, rooftop tanks, and the hard blue shadows between buildings. Human presence is implied through use rather than figures.

Artist statement

I am drawn to spaces designed for passing through. Painting slows them down long enough to show the care, wear, and improvisation they contain.

In the studio

Serrano works from small gouache studies and site photographs, then recomposes them in oil. She keeps perspectives slightly misaligned to preserve a sense of movement. Screenprinting lets her rebuild urban fragments through flat color, sharp edges, and deliberate misregistration.
