Biography
Naomi Yazzie is a Diné artist whose practice moves between weaving and painted cloth. Based in Flagstaff, she develops nonfigurative fields from horizon shifts, changing elevation, and the different speeds of handwoven and brushed color.
Artist statement
Yazzie lets structure and color arrive through separate kinds of attention. Warp establishes duration; pigment introduces weather, interruption, and the possibility of revision.
In the studio
Yazzie weaves wool and cotton panels in narrow sections, joins them visibly, and adds acrylic or mineral pigment after tension is released. Natural dyes appear beside studio color without being asked to signify a fixed tradition.
