Paige Sullivan

Charleston, South Carolina, United States

The useful mistake is the one that changes the next decision.

Biography

Paige Sullivan learned relief printing in a community press and later studied paper engineering for museum display. Her works combine carved marks with chine-collé, monotype, and stitched paper, using coastal weather as a source for rhythm rather than illustration.

Artist statement

Sullivan builds images from systems that are allowed to slip. Registration, repetition, and seam lines establish order; torn paper and hand pressure keep that order alive.

In the studio

Small linoleum blocks are printed in shifting sequences, often through two blue inks mixed by eye. Sullivan cuts and joins papers after printing, adding graphite or thread only when the surface needs another tempo.
