Thiago Moura
São Paulo, Brazil
“Balance is a duration, not a pose.”
Biography
Thiago Moura makes stone and plaster sculptures that explore balance without hiding their weight. Soft-looking profiles meet rough breaks and deliberate tool marks.
Artist statement
Mass can feel temporary. I try to make heavy material appear as if it has paused rather than settled.
In the studio
Moura carves limestone and casts pigmented plaster in small editions of one. Bases are integrated into the composition instead of treated as neutral supports. Pigmented wall panels provide a flat counterpoint to his carved stone and plaster forms.
