Zuri Bennett

London, United Kingdom

Soft material can hold a very firm boundary.

Biography

Zuri Bennett creates fiber works from hand-dyed rope, woven strips, and tailored remnants. The pieces move between wall hanging, soft sculpture, and garments that have shed their expected function.

Artist statement

Textile carries the memory of the body even when no one is wearing it. I work with that trace through weight, tension, and drape.

In the studio

Bennett dyes fibers in small lots, then knots, wraps, and stitches them over hidden armatures. Color is built through many nearby tones rather than one flat hue. Folded textile reliefs hold drape in a more architectural register while retaining the memory of cloth.
